Removal of the front brake drums
15six_158
On the right side, the ball bearing stayed on the drum…
15six_159
… but on the laft side it didn’t, it’s simpler this way
15six_160
Transmission axles can now be removed
15six_161
Pulling the right wheel bearing out was not easy…
15six_162
… but it eventually came out
15six_165
First cleaning phase
15six_167
The original green color reappears
15six_171
Then Claude comes to help me removing the gearbox
15six_173
Transmission plates are a lot damaged, I understood it’s usual
15six_174
The hydraulic press has been usefull to remove the shafts
15six_177
I insist that we check the timing chain, Claude has the special tool to remove the dented nut so it’s a good opprtunity
15six_180
And here is what I feared…
15six_181
… a very thick layer of dirt at the bottom of the oil pan
15six_183
The timing chain is lose, I’m going to replace it
15six_184
The clutch disk is at the end of its lifetime and must be replaced
15six_185
I remove the pulley to paint the area correctly
15six_187
Then we continue on the front brakes
15six_191
We discover that the brake cylinders are almost jammed, we have to apply way too much force to move the pistons
15six_193
I have a strong table…
15six_194
… so I put the engine on this table…
15six_195
… it will be much more practical to work
15six_199
Still many cleaning hours to go…
15six_200
… and some organization to not mix everything
15six_202
I bought new transmission plates but they are not even the same…
15six_203
… thanks again to newly manufacturer parts, their quality is often frustrating
15six_205
I dont’ know yet which parts I’m going to paint and which parts I’m going to keep as is, after cleaning
15six_206
Parts are everywhere in the garage 😉
